LUCKY STAR is a hybrid performance and video-art installation inspired by icons of the performance art scene in the 1960s & 1970s. Borrowing vaudeville fabulousness to celebrate queer bodies, and the objectification, creative endurance, and pursuit of artistic stardom, LUCKY STAR discusses identity and sexuality in a universal and playful storytelling platform. Inspired by pop icons such as legendary performer Josephine Baker, singer Klaus Nomi, and radical filmmaker Tom Rubnitz, the project borrows drag and vaudeville fabulousness to celebrate otherness. Queer, trippy, and irreverent, with performers cast as alternate-universe superstar versions of themselves, LUCKY STAR is an experiential performance that invites viewers to witness stories of queer resilience, beauty, and the pursuit of artistic stardom.
